About Electricity Distribution

Distribution is the most critical link in the entire value chain of the power sector. Most of the distribution network is still managed by state distribution companies with little participation from the private sector. The Government of India launched the Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana (Saubhagya scheme) in September 2017 with a total outlay of Rs 16,320 crore to provide last mile connectivity and electricity connection to the remaining un-electrified households in the country. More than 2.63 crore households have been provided electricity connections between October 2017 and March 2019. Under NIP, projects worth INR 323,034 crore to be implemented under distribution category by DDUGJY, IPDS and a new proposed scheme. In the distribution segment, many projects are being executed under the Integrated Power Development Scheme (IPDS) and Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY) to strengthen the distribution network in urban and rural areas in order to provide continuous power supply.
