India offers rich opportunities for heritage tourism. The World Heritage List has 36 sites inscribed which include 28 cultural, 7 natural and 1 mixed category site. There are 3686 monuments/sites under the protection of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). India is expanding the tourism offering- as a first, the ‘Adventure Tourism Guidelines’ were launched covering 29 land, air and water-based activities. India also launched Swadesh Darshan - 15 theme-based tourist circuits and 5 pan-India mega circuits for which 77 projects worth USD 880 Mn are already underway.
